Virginia Beach, Va. - The City of Virginia Beach says it is ready for whatever impacts Tropical Storm Andrea may bring.

Drew Lankford with the Department of Public Works says crews had been busy Thursday making sure preparations were in order.

"We’ve got crews going around checking all the storm water drains, checking all the storm water stations," Lankford explained. "We’ve got pump trucks all ready, we’ve been checking emergency generators."

While the city hopes any flooding from TS Andrea will be minimal, past storms have taught them to always be prepared.

"A lot of what we are doing at this point is to be sure that we can get proper drainage through everywhere and that if there is a major problem we’ve got all the equipment to take care of it," Lankford stated.

Public Works crews have already been put on stand-by to respond to any problems caused by TS Andrea.

"Fleet maintenance and operations crews will both be on standby at least through Friday night – we’ll see how the storm takes place, but for the next 24-48 hours we do have crews on standby," Lankford explained.

For the most part though, Lankford said he was confident Virginia Beach was ready to take on anything TS Andrea has to offer.

"Right now I think we’re in good shape," Lankford said. "We’ve got everything in place and based on what we are told about the storm prediction, I think we are ready for it."
