Virginia Beach, Va. - There's good news for people who park in metered spots in Virginia Beach. The City of Virginia Beach has unveiled a new app that allows drivers to pay for parking at on-street meters using a smartphone.

On Friday, NewsChannel 3 Took Action and sent Todd Corillo to the Oceanfront to test out the new app.

The new meters accept coins, credit cards, or the option to pay via the app.

The app is called Parkmobile and is available for download on both iOs and Android platforms.

Just install the app, enter your credit card number and you’re ready to go.

The app allows drivers to get alerts when the time on their meters is about to run out and to add additional time right from their smart phone without having to return to the meter.

A transaction fee of $0.35 is assessed when paying for parking with the app.

Another free app, ParkMe, displays maps of parking lots and garages at the resort.

Virginia Beach Parking Manager David Fairbaugh says they are working to expand the options on the ParkMe app to show when lots are full or close to full.
