Elizabeth City, NC - One man was arrested Monday and his brother remained in a Norfolk hospital after breaking into their stepfather's home.

The stepfather then fired a shotgun at the men, shooting one of them in the leg.

Thomas Whidbee Junior, 24, was arrested Monday by Elizabeth City Police.

Police say Thomas and his brother, DeQuan Whidbee, had attempted to break into their stepfather, Alonzo Graham's home in the River Breeze Mobile Home Park on Sunday afternoon.

Officers were called to the scene around 3:18 p.m. and were advised that shots had been fired. When they arrived, they found DeQuan laying in the front yard of the mobile home suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg.

Police say a pellet also struck Dawn Whidbee, Graham's wife and mother to DeQuan and Thomas.

Graham surrendered to police without incident.

According to police, it is alleged that DeQuan and Thomas had gotten into a dispute with their stepfather earlier. They left the mobile home lot only to return a short time later and kick in the front door of Graham's home.

They were confronted by Graham, who fired a shot.

DeQuan and his mother were transported to the hospital for treatment. Dawn Whidbee was treated and released while DeQuan underwent surgery on his leg.

Graham was released pending the outcome of the investigation.

Thomas Whidbee Jr was arrested Monday and charged with breaking and entering and communicating threats.

DeQuan faces the same charges once released from the hospital.
