A Virginia Beach-based Navy SEAL was killed Wednesday during a training exercise at Fort Knox in Kentucky, according to a spokesman with Naval Special Warfare Group 2.

Special Warfare Operator Third Class (SEAL) Jonathan H. Kaloust died as a result of injuries sustained late Wednesday when a Humvee rolled over during convoy training.

Lt. David Lloyd, with NSW Group 2, says seven other Navy service members were injured, including five SEALs, one EOD technician, and one Navy support sailor. Their injuries were minor and they were treated and released on scene or at the hospital.

All were locally-based inside Naval Special Warfare Group 2, based at Little Creek.

Lt. Lloyd says the training is standard for all SEALs.

“The Naval Special Warfare community is deeply saddened by this tragic accident,” said Capt. Robert Smith, Commander, Naval Special Warfare Group TWO, in a statement. “Our thoughts and our prayers go out to the family and friends of our fallen teammate and those injured in the accident. A thorough investigation into the incident is underway.”
