He waited for this day for weeks.

Michael Pitt was fired from the Navy by the Enlisted Retention Board last year, and with no job, he couldn't afford to fix his 2004 Pontiac Grand AM after it broke down.

“It’s been hard, just as simple as getting groceries, it’s been hard,” says Pitt.

But that was all before NewsChannel 3, along with a local mechanic, took action for this veteran's family.

We gave them $1,000 dollars for a new engine to finally get their car back on the road.

After pulling up to JB's Auto Shop in Virginia Beach, the moment finally came for this family to get results.

Paul Turney was the mechanic that helped NewsChannel 3 make the engine a reality by paying for most of the labor.

And looking at the final bill, many other local companies gave discounts and donations trying to help.
