Virginia Beach, Va. - Virginia Ann Hale, a 56-year-old Beach woman, has been charged with obstruction of justice, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and making false statements in connection to the case of a teen that was badly beaten with a bat in April.

Police say the assault occurred on April 7th at around 4 a.m. on Lynnhaven Drive. Police went to the scene and found 17-year-old Matt McGloon who they say was unable to stand at the time. Authorities were told that he was drunk and had hurt himself after a fall. He suffered life-threatening injuries.

Later, an investigation revealed that he was hit in the head with a baseball bat by another 17-year-old. That teen has been charged with malicious assault and was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center.

Police say that Hale was there when the assault occurred. She was taken to the Virginia Beach Correctional Center and has now been released.

McGloon is still recovering from his injuries.

His family tells NewsChannel 3's Todd Corillo that Matt is recovering at an out-of-state rehabilitation hospital for patients with traumatic brain injuries.

They say he continues to make good progress everyday and they look forward to returning home to Virginia Beach as soon as Matt is able.
