Virginia Beach, Va. - This week, we recognized Kathy Shambo, a Virginia Beach SPCA worker who is passionate about helping animals in need. She’s done much of it on her own time and has provided foster care for over 260 animals!

As the education director for the Virginia Beach SPCA, she visits various elementary schools, like Rosemont Forest, bringing pets to help with a special reading program, but she does so much more.

Kathy is now fostering a bird and taking care two crows. One of them has a beak deformity and the other is partially blind. If it were not for Kathy's big heart, more than likely the crows would have been euthanized.

She is also known to foster dogs that are hard to find homes for like pit bulls. Lately, on her own time, she's been visiting a North Carolina shelter to help with pit bulls confiscated in a dog-fighting ring.
