Lockdown lifted for two Virginia Beach schools

Update: The lockdown has now been lifted for both schools, officials tell NewsChannel 3.

Virginia Beach, Va. - Two Virginia Beach schools are on a precautionary lockdown after an incident Wednesday morning, police tell NewsChannel 3.

On Wednesday, May 1 at 10:31 a.m. a police officer attempted to stop a suspect in a vehicle near S. Lynnhaven Road. The suspect then ran away, officials tell NewsChannel 3.

The police officer and suspect engaged in a 'foot pursuit' in the 500 block of S. Lynnhaven Road. As of 10:54 a.m. Lynnhaven Elementary School is on lockdown; and as of 11:05 a.m. Plaza Middle School is also on lockdown.

Officers with K9 units are in the surrounding neighborhoods, attempting to locate the suspect. There is no threat to the schools; this is a precaution to the schools, police say.
