Portsmouth, Va. - Hundreds came together Wednesday night at Churchland High School in Portsmouth to remember 19-year-old Marvell Edmondson.

Marvell, along with Jauwan Holmes, both students at VSU, went missing this past weekend during a hazing ritual in the Appomattox River.

Marvell's body was found Tuesday.

"We went through three days of not knowing if my child was in that river and when they pulled his body out, we got a sense of relief."

Marvell's mother, Kim Edmondson, had a message for those heading to college.

"Hazing is a very big thing on college campus,” she says. ”Ya'll all need to be careful and we'll never know exactly all the details that happened to my son, but he was loved."

With tears in their eyes and candles lit, a final goodbye was made as balloons were released into the sky.

"Words can't bring him back but right now he's in a better place,” says father, Marvell Edmondson.
