Meet and Greet the Arts on Granby

Norfolk, Va. – The Virginia Arts Festival turns Granby Street into a stage showcasing the best of Norfolk’s arts and culture organizations on Friday, April 19, 2013.

Experience performances beyond the concert hall during Meet and Greet the Arts street festival from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Meet and Greet the Arts will feature three blocks of activities for all ages and two stages packed with performances.

Highlights of this free event include: interactive artist exhibits, Chrysler Museum Glass Shop, musical performances by Governor’s School for the Arts and Norfolk resident arts groups, street performers, public art, giveaways and more.

Meet and Greet the Arts is a partnership between the Virginia Arts Festival, City of Norfolk, and Festevents.

“Meet and Greet the Arts allows the Virginia Arts Festival to showcase some of the best and brightest talent in the City of Norfolk,” says Rob Cross, Executive Director of the Virginia Arts Festival. “The Festival is so full of amazing performances this season that we are taking it beyond concerts halls and into the streets”. Meet and Greet the Arts kicks off a full evening of entertainment that includes the opening night of Birmingham Royal Ballet’s Coppélia at 7:30 p.m.

Also, premiering after Meet and Greet the Arts, Chrysler Museum’s interactive installation production entitled Airborne, by Rafael Lozano-Hemmer. Airborne will be on view at the Festival Green space across from Chrysler Hall (corner of Charlotte and Bank Streets) beginning at 8:00pm, and runs through April 28th in partnership with the Norfolk Consortium.

Watch for other exciting Virginia Arts Festival outdoor performances this spring, including: Australia’s Strange Fruit, projections on Virginia Arts Festival building and a community built performance of Bolero in partnership with acclaimed New York dance troupe Keigwin + Company.
