Streets reopened after bomb squad detonates suspicious package found at Norfolk intersection

UPDATE: The bomb squad has detonated the package, according to Chief Williamson. Nothing was found inside – streets are now open to traffic and pedestrians.

Norfolk, Va. – Traffic is blocked off in part of downtown Norfolk after reports of a suspicious package, fire officials tell NewsChannel 3.

The call came in at 6:40 a.m. Wednesday, April 17. A citizen reported a suspicious black duffel bag found on the corner of Reservoir Avenue and Bond Street, according to Julian Williamson of Norfolk Fire and Rescue.

Nearby Phyllis Wheatley Residential Hall at Norfolk State was evacuated by campus police.

The intersection of Reservoir Avenue and Bond Street is blocked off to pedestrians and vehicle traffic.
