There will never be another Hurricane Sandy.
The World Meteorological Organization voted to retire the name of the super storm that killed 147 people and caused nearly $50 billion in damage from the Caribbean to Hampton Roads and the northeast U.S. last October.
Hurricane names are typically reused every six years. But if a storm is especially deadly or costly, it’s name is retired from the list.
Sandy is the 77th name to be removed from the Atlantic list since 1954. “Sandy” will be replaced by the name “Sara” during the 2018 hurricane season
