UPDATE: Loaded gun found at Norfolk mall belonged to Sheriff’s Deputy

Norfolk, Va. - Norfolk police have located the owner of a loaded handgun that was found inside of a dressing room at Macy's inside of Norfolk's Military Circle Mall. The gun belongs to a Norfolk Sheriff's Deputy.

A customer reported the gun to loss prevention on Monday afternoon.

The deputy realized as soon as he went back home that he had left the gun. He immediately notified the store and officials.

The Norfolk Sheriff's office has taken disciplinary action against the deputy.

The Sheriff's office is not releasing the name of the deputy because it is an internal NSO matter officials say.

No criminal charges will be filed.
