Virginia Beach, Va. - Police are increasing their patrols at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront starting today, due to the upcoming spring break for students of Virginia Beach public schools. Police will be enforcing the city curfew for juveniles, which is 11 p.m.

Here is a message from Virginia Beach police:

"With the City Of Virginia Beach Public Schools Spring Break approaching, the Virginia Beach Police Department will be gearing up for our Operations at the Oceanfront. Every year in the summer months, we send additional resources to the Oceanfront area to ensure that all our residents and visitors can safely enjoy themselves at the resort area in one of the safest large cities in the nation.

In past years, we have noticed a larger than normal crowd at the Oceanfront during the VBCPS Spring Break week. Therefore we will have additional officers and deputy sheriffs assigned to the Oceanfront during Spring Break week, March 29-April 7, and we will be heavily enforcing the city code for curfew, as a large number of residents/visitors tend to be juveniles that remain out in public past the 11:00 pm curfew.

If we come in contact with a juvenile past 11 p.m., he/she will be detained and held at the Second Police Precinct until a parent/guardian is able to pick them up.

The juvenile will be cited for the violation and he/she, along with a parent/guardian, will be required to appear in court. We are striving for voluntary compliance from the public.

In order to help achieve voluntary compliance, we are making the public aware of our enforcement strategy throughout the week."
