Virginia Beach, Va. - A fourth-grader from Thoroughgood Elementary School was found with an unloaded BB gun this morning.
A concerned parent noticed the gun and alerted the school, according to school spokesperson Lauren Wicks.
The student was detained immediately once the bus arrived at the school and the gun was found inside the bookbag.
Parents were notified by the schools AlertNow System of the incident by the Principal Dr. Cheryl Zigrang.
In the message the principal told parents to talk to their children about the consequences of bringing weapons, including lookalikes and toys to the bus stop, bus or school.
She also told them to talk to their children about safety. Wicks says that appropriate disciplinary action is being taken, but could not elaborate on what type.
