Middle school sports may be cut in Chesapeake
Chesapeake, Va. – Middle school sports in Chesapeake are on the chopping block. School leaders are trying to cut more than $9 million from the district’s budget.
The school board is holding a public meeting tonight to discuss possible eliminations.
Dozens of parents are calling foul, especially with talks about cutting middle school sports.
Some parents and grandparents believe athletics keeps kids from getting into trouble after school, while teaching them about exercise and teamwork.
Besides middle school sports – Chesapeake’s superintendent is also proposing to axe adult education, behind-the-wheel driver’s education classes, along with 30 jobs.
