And it's been quite the week for several of our student athletes of the week!

We're talking specifically about some Hampton Roads divers and gymnasts!

We headed to northern Virginia where the state diving tournament took place, at George Mason University.

Nineteen divers competed, and had to make it past the qualifying round, Menchville's Ryan Maitland did just that.

The junior has only been competing for three years, clinched one of those spots allowing him to compete in the state finals

Then there was girls diving with Kasey Stone; the Western Branch senior also competed against Princess Anne's Lydia Jabs. Stone who has only been diving for two years, placed sixth, significantly improving since last year.

And while her talent is undeniable in the pool, it may surprise people that stone were originally a gymnast, but an ankle injury forced her to find a new love

Now diving wasn't the only state tournament occurring Saturday, right down the road at Centerville High School, some females were competing in their gymnastics tournament where a few local Hampton Roads girls were looking to bring in those top scores

Girls from across the area competed on the vault, floor, bars, and beam in individual competition.

All eyes were on athletes from the 757. Courtney Adams, from Great Bridge, landed some high scores in all four events, giving her a second place finish all around.

But who landed that top spot? Well this year’s winner is no stranger to first. Jamie Stone, the Western Branch sophomore held on to her first place all around win for the second year in a row, an accomplishment she's still not quite used to.
