Portsmouth, Va. - Portsmouth City Councilman Bill Moody is facing pressure to resign after an extramarital affair may have produced a child.

It allegedly caused a fight that led to arrest warrants being filed in Portsmouth court.  A protective order is being put out against the woman who Moody slept with.

Mayor Kenny Wright wants moody to step aside, but he won't. In a phone conversation with NewsChannel 3, Moody says the mayor's call for his resignation is 99.99 percent politically motivated.

Moody said earlier in the afternoon that he planned on using Tuesday's city council meeting to say he wasn't going anywhere.

But during a nearly two hour meeting, Moody was mute.

So why didn't Moody defend himself?

"I have no comment I think it was a very amicable meeting," Moody said.

Mayor Kenny Wright says he did not talk to Moody about stepping down at a closed door meeting earlier in the evening. He rejects Moody's call that he's making a political move.

"We are all held to a higher standard as leaders of our community, and I expect everyone in our community to be held to the same standard," Wright said.

Wright and Moody have butted heads in the past. But Moody wouldn't give any comment as to what issue he thinks sparked Wright to call for him to leave office.

"I have a lot of support from the citizens," Moody said.
