Could the state of NC owe you money?

North Carolina's Treasury is flushed with your unclaimed cash.

One in eight people in the Tar Heel state have a claim to their share of the 344 million dollars.

The unclaimed cash comes from things like people overpaying on a utility or medical bill, to moving to a new home.

The repayment gets sent to their old address, but since they don't live there anymore, it gets sent to the state and just sits there until you claim it.

Angela Evans got more than 200 dollars last year, and she felt like she won a mini-lottery.

"Oh yeah, cause at the time I could use that 247 dollars," Evans said.

The quickest way to find out if you're richer than you think is to go online and check at NCcash.com.

There you can click on the tab, search for unclaimed cash or property, type in your first and last name, and see if you're in the money.

NewsChannel 3 took action to help people check if they were owed unclaimed cash.

Donna Flecher of Elizabeth City came up empty unfortunately.

Her next door neighbor, Christopher Perry, had a little bit better luck, sort of.

"You know what's really funny? This is my uncle," Perry said. "He's not there anymore, that's his old place. I gotta call that guy."

So far this year, NCcash.com has returned more than 50 million dollars to people.

Perry's uncle is next and Perry's hoping he decides to be generous.

"It doesn't matter if it's 50 dollars, or 300 dollars, or 3,000 dollars," Perry said. "The money is more gratifying when you did not know you had it."
