Virginia Beach man wins $100,000 from lottery scratch-off ticket

Virginia Beach, Va. - John Byers might have been a little disappointed when he discovered the Virginia Lottery Scratcher game he wanted to play wasn’t in stock. So the Virginia Beach man played a different game – and won $100,000!

His Jewel 7’s ticket won the game’s top prize.

Mr. Byers bought the winning ticket at Pretzels Plus at 4554 Virginia Beach Boulevard in Virginia Beach.

He told Lottery officials he called his wife as soon as he discovered he had a $100,000 winner. She didn’t believe him at first.

The win comes at a good time. Mr. Byers retired just a few months ago. He is the seventh player to claim the $100,000 prize in the game, which means nine top-prize tickets remain unclaimed.
