Chesapeake, Va. - Layer upon layer, employees and patients at Chesapeake Care Clinic are bundling up.

Five heaters were stolen this week from the back of the building. Now staff is hoping folks will take action to help.

Cathy Revell is the executive director of the free care clinic. She says four units were stolen Wednesday night and another on Thursday. She believes the thieves only wanted the copper.

"It’s very disheartening that someone would steal heat from a non-profit, but I guess it happens and here we are,” Revell says. “We're hoping not to have to close the clinic because we don't have heat."

Insurance will cover their loss, but preventing this from happening again will come at a hefty cost.

"What we really need to do is enclose the new equipment when we get it into fencing cages with locks and security cameras,” she says.

The price tag for future protection is $10,000. Revell says it's just not in the budget.

"I hope that the community will step up and help us out here so we can continue to provide the excellent care that we give to our patients."

Revell says the new heaters should be in by next week. To help the clinic offset the deductible and security costs, you can mail a donation to their office or donate on their website.
