Two inches of snow may be on the radar for some areas of Virginia Beach tomorrow, but 30 snow plows and 4,000 tons of sand and salt has Virginia Beach Public Works officials saying they're ready for anything.

"Let's hope it doesn't come to this, but if we had a major storm every week until spring, we should be in good shape," said Virginia Beach Public Works Media and Communications Coordinator, Drew Lankford.

They prepped Thursday to make sure everything was working and ready to go, including hooking up the salt and sand spreader system on the back of each plow.

"Most of us have been in this drill. It's just another one for us. Be ready, make sure your equipment is ready. Being outside in a storm is not the proper time to try to fix something," said Superintendent of Streets, Jim Huntington.

The snowstorm is supposed to start Friday afternoon, and Public Works is working their schedules around it.

They say all crews are on call, and they'll start treating the streets as early as 1:30 Friday afternoon to make sure they're safe for rush hour.

"There are a lot of people from a lot of different areas here, and most of our drivers are not used to dealing with the snow and ice. So it's important that we get out there and try to make these roads as safe as we can," Huntingon said.
