East Suffolk Rec Center is closed on Saturday

In response to adverse weather conditions, the Virginia Zoo will open at noon, two hours late, Saturday Jan. 26, 2013.
The Zoo is expected to resume normal hours Sunday Jan. 27, depending on weather.
Suffolk Police and Suffolk Fire & Rescue personnel have responded to more than 76 accidents across the City of Suffolk from 3:00 p.m. until 9:30 p.m.
Chesapeake: Elbow Rd & Campostella Rd overpass closing due to unsafe driving conditions. Please avoid all travel if possible
All Newport News public libraries will open at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 26.
All Parks & Rec classes and activities scheduled prior to 10:00 am on Saturday, January 26 are cancelled in Newport News.
Saturday closings/delays:
Children’s Museum opens at 10 a.m.
Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Museum opens at noon
Portsmouth Art and Cultural Center Gallery Shop opens at noon
As of 7:50 p.m. Hampton says they have responded to 43 accidents. 37 accidents are without injuries and 6 with injuries.

Due to inclement weather and the resulting traffic conditions, the Norfolk Admirals have announced that any unused tickets for Friday’s game against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers will be honored for any remaining 2012-13 regular season game played at Norfolk Scope Arena (based upon ticket availability). These unused tickets may only be redeemed at the Norfolk Scope Box Office.
Update from the City of Suffolk:
The exit ramps on Rt. 58 East from Pruden Boulevard (Route 460), as well as Rt. 58 West from Downtown Suffolk are currently closed due to ice. In addition, ice has also closed the on and off ramps at Rt. 58 and Route 10/Godwin Boulevard. Ice is also reported in the 5000 block of Holland Road.

There have already been over 40 automobile accidents in Pasquotank/Camden due to the hazardous road conditions. Drive safely – stopping distances are ten times longer in ice and snow.

As of 4:45 p.m., State Troopers were still handling 157 calls for service, with 130 of those being traffic crashes and another 19 for disabled vehicles.

The College Board has cancelled the SAT exams scheduled to take place at Grafton High School on Saturday. The College Board will notify students registered to take the SAT of the rescheduled date.

Here’s Patrick’s latest update on the snow:
So far state police report 172 calls for service in Hampton Roads, including 17 crashes and 24 disabled vehicles.
The Suffolk Police Department and Suffolk Fire & Rescue report more than 25 accidents within the last hour including vehicles in ditches and minor collisions.
The following roadways currently have ice reported and drivers are advised to use extreme caution:
• Route 58 West – The off-ramp to Downtown Suffolk from 58 East
• 5000 block of Holland Road
• 400 block of Market Street
• Route 58 from Route 10/Godwin Boulevard on and off ramps
The SAT Testing scheduled for Saturday at Bethel High and Hampton High has been cancelled.

All Department of Suffolk Parks & Recreation’s youth league sports events have been cancelled for Friday evening and Saturday.
All afterschool programs will remain open today until 6:00 p.m. The East Suffolk Recreation Center will close at 6:00 p.m.

JUST UPDATED our snow forecast and lowered the accumulation totals a bit more. We’re getting a lot of dry air gobbling up the falling snow. Now expecting up to two inches on the Eastern Shore, around an inch for the Peninsulas and the Southside, with amounts dropping the farther south and west you go.

The Academy of Dance “Fabulous Feet” performance scheduled for tonight in Hampton is cancelled and rescheduled for Friday, Feb 1, at 7 p.m.

SNOW TIMELINE: Snow is starting to move across I-95. Snow will continue to move in this afternoon and clearing out overnight tonight.

WINTRY MIX: Here is a look at what we could primarily see. All of the area could see a bit of everything but expect mainly snow in VA, mainly snow/sleet mix in NE NC (a few areas of freezing rain inland), and mainly rain for the OBX.

Crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) are monitoring roadways and preparing for treatment if weather conditions deteriorate in association with Friday’s winter weather. Re-freezing is expected overnight as temperatures drop. Motorists are urged to continue using extreme caution while traveling especially on bridges, overpasses and ramps where icy road conditions may be present.
