Hampton, Va. - He's charged with possession of counterfeit bills and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. But court records show 39-year-old Terrence Newby has no one to blame but his daughter.

She was the one who tipped off police when she brought two of his fake $20 bills to school. According to search warrants filed in Hampton Circuit Court, back in December the little girl asked her father for money to buy something at Cary Elementary's holiday shop.

When he said no, court records show that the little girl knew where Newby kept his money and removed two $20 bills from a stack of cash without her dad knowing.

One of the bills was used at the holiday store at Cary Elementary, and when the clerk checked the bill with a marker, she found it was counterfeit and refused to accept it.

The school principal called police on December 13th and by December 14th, investigators executed search warrants at the little girl's home on Old Buckroe Road.

Police arrested Newby that night, and seized a computer, a scanner/copier and several counterfeit bills, as well as a gun and a bulletproof vest.

Right now, Newby is only charged with having the fake money, not with actually making it.

Police are continuing to investigate, to try to find out where these counterfeit bills came from.
