Suffolk, Va. - Suffolk Fire and Rescue crews responded to a two alarm fire on Wednesday morning in the 300 block of Holladay Street in downtown Suffolk.

The call came in at approximately 4:59 a.m., officials say. The first units arrived on scene within five minutes.

Three engines, two ladder trucks, Rescue 1, Battalion 1, the Nansemond Suffolk Volunteer Rescue Squad, and the Fire Marshal responded to the scene.

Two adjoining two-story duplexes were affected by the fire. Officials say 11 adults were displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross.

An occupant on the second floor was awakened by a smoke detector. Due to the closeness of the duplexes, the two units adjacent to the affected duplexes were also evacuated as a precautionary measure.

Police say the fire was brought under control by firefighters within an hour. There were no injuries.

The Suffolk Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
