Newport News police round up 46 people in first day of warrant sweep

Newport News, Va. - The Newport News Police Department rounded up 46 people Thursday during the first day of a two-day sweep of outstanding warrants. The arrests cleared 29 felony warrants and 52 misdemeanor warrants.

Officers will be back out on the streets Friday.

Teams of officers will attend briefings at 6:00 A.M. and 2:00 P.M. at Police Headquarters. The officers will be given packages of outstanding warrants and will attempt to locate and arrest those persons named in the warrants.

Officers will be available to answer calls providing information on wanted persons.

Anyone with information on wanted persons can call the Fugitive Unit at 928-4289 or call Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP where they may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a cash reward for information leading to an arrest.

The Newport News Police Department will have the assistance of the United States Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force and other local, state and federal agencies.
