Dare Co. – A man was arrested and charged over the weekend for the armed robbery of a Walgreens store in Kill Devil Hills.
On Saturday, December 1, 2012 at approximately 12:30 p.m. police say a white male wearing large sunglasses and a dark hooded sweatshirt entered the Walgreens store located in Kill Devil Hills. Police say the suspect handed the pharmacists a note stating he had a gun, and demanded Hydromorphone pills. Hydomorphone is a narcotic drug.
Police say when the suspect noticed one of the pharmacists calling for help, he jumped the counter to try to stop her. The suspect then ran out of the store and headed south where his vehicle was parked in an adjoining business, police say.
Police say witnesses’ statements and Walgreens security video still photos made it possible for them to identify the suspect. 30-year-old Martin Lewis Hardy of Manteo has been arrested, charged with armed robbery. He was arrested on December 1, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. inside a residence located at W. 4th Street in Kill Devil Hills.
Hardy was taken to Dare County Detention Center and placed under a $100,000 secured bond.
