A mission to send hundreds of care packages to our troops got some extra manpower Sunday morning.

Volunteers in Chesapeake helped Wendy Childers pack 500 care packages for the troops this morning, just in time for Christmas.

This was all part of the Lance Corporal Cody S. Childers Memorial Fund.

He’s a Marine who was killed in Afghanistan back in 2010.

Since then, his mother, Wendy, has made it her mission to send care packages to the troops.

“Seeing 300 people doing it at one time and we are accomplishing it in three hours it’s great and it’s really touching that so many people care about the cause and our troops that they would come out today.”

Wendy says these boxes will go to a batallion in Afghanistan.

The Marines who will receive the boxes are based out of Camp Lejeune.
NewsChannel 3 was on hand to help out.

Laila Muhammad and meteorologist Myles Henderson and some other NewsChannel 3 workers helped pack the boxes for the troops.
