Hampton's Fort Monroe could soon be home to a science academy for high school students.

It part of a partnership between ODU, Hampton University, Virginia Tech, and VMI.

Since Fort Monroe closed last year, there has been lots of discussion about what to do with the former army post.

Recently homes at Fort Monroe started popping up for rent on craigslist.

Now this new plan would have about 1,000 high school students living there.

They'd be students at the Virginia Science Technology engineering and applied mathematics academy or STEAM.

First up would be an inaugural summer camp for middle school students next summer.

The residential academy for high school students wouldn't start until 2014.

No officials plans have been made yet.
