Volunteers took action to help homeless veterans in Chesapeake on Saturday.

The stand down was held Saturday at the Cuffee Community Center.

Veterans had access to showers and were given clothing and haircuts.

They could also speak with volunteers about housing, jobs, and social security.

There was a station for health-related issues like blood sugar and diabetes testing.

The program's coordinator, Henrico O. Brown, is hoping to help even more homeless veterans in the future.

"The main purpose of this is to bring all the veteran services together and have an event. Hopefully, down the road, we can make this a three day event. where we'll be sure to contact 80-95% of the veterans in this area."

The stand down was hosted by the Disabled American Veterans and the city of Chesapeake.
