Virginia Beach is considering a plan to add 15 minutes to each school day for high school students.

This trickles down from altering the schedule for middle and elementary school kids.

Right now, high school students are in class from 7:25 a.m. to 2 p.m.

But with the new schedule, they will be in class five minutes earlier and be out 10 minutes later.

The idea is to also push back the start and dismissal times for younger students by ten minutes.

This would still allow students in high school to get home before the younger kids.

There is no extra time added for the younger students.

The proposal says the extra 15 minutes will be used to help with a new hybrid course schedule for students to better meet their credit requirements for graduation.

The added time will also allow every high school student to have a 30-minute lunch instead of the optional 20 minute break they have now.

Nothing is set in stone just yet, but the school board is looking for your 3 cents on this.

If you’re a Beach parent, there’s a public hearing scheduled for next Tuesday at 6 pm inside the school administration building.
