Norfolk’s first red-light camera to start in February 2013

Watch out Norfolk residents. Red-light cameras are coming to an intersection near you.

Officials say the city’s first red light camera will be installed at St. Paul’s and Brambleton Avenue and will be operational in Feb. 2013.

The director of Norfolk Public Works, John Keifer, says the contract to install and operate the cameras has been awarded to Red Flex Traffic Systems, Inc. This is the same company that is handling red-light cameras for several other cities in Hampton Roads as well. 

Norfolk city council will be briefed Tuesday on the details.

Seven other locations in the city will also get red-light cameras next year in the city and they include:

Hampton Blvd & Terminal Blvd.

Chesapeake Blvd & Little Creek Rd.

Virginia Beach Blvd & Raby Road

Military & Princess Anne & Northampton

Brambleton Ave. & St. Paul’s Blvd.

E. Little Creek Road.& Halprin Dr.

Granby St. & Little Creek

St. Paul’s Blvd and Market Street
