Update: Two arrested in theft of $800 bird in Virginia Beach

Virginia Beach, Va. – Virginia Beach police have arrested a man and woman after an exotic bird was stolen from a pet shop in Virginia Beach back in October.

On Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at approximately 11:50 a.m., the male suspect returned the stolen bird, unharmed, to Animal Jungle. Police then arrested him.  On Thursday,  November 15, the female suspect was arrested at a home in Norfolk and taken back to Virginia Beach into custody.

The suspects have been identified as 31-year-old Charles Leo Frueh of the 900 block of Vero Street in Norfolk; and 29-year-old Chaunda Sue Dickerson of the 400 block of Plainfield Avenue in Chesapeake.

Both Frueh and Dickerson have been charged with Grand Larceny, and were released on bond.

On Sunday, October 14, 2012 an employee of the Animal Jungle, located at 4318 Holland Road, discovered an expensive bird was missing from the small bird room. The manager reviewed surveillance video and saw the two suspects in the room the previous night.

The video captured the two suspects entering the business and the bird room. The female suspect concealed the bird, then left the business.

The bird is a White Bellied Caique, valued over $800. The bird is described as 7.5 – 8”, with a white belly, a green body, and a few black spots on the head.
