According to www.navy.mil, the USS Carr, a Norfolk-based Navy ship, seized over 15 million dollars worth of cocaine in the Eastern Pacific Ocean on Thursday, Oct. 25th.

They say crews recovered 1,719 pounds of cocaine.

According to the website, the USS Carr was conducting a routine patrol when they saw a fast moving speed boat. They closed in to investigate.

They say the boat then attempted to change course and tried to escape.

Crews tried to stop the boat, but when those efforts were not successful, the gunner fired warning shots.

The boat still did not stop, so the gunner fired disabling rounds, bringing the speedboat to a stop.

Sailors from the Carr and personnel from the LEDET recovered packages of various sizes from the water, later determined to be cocaine.

Carr is homeported in Norfolk, Va., and is currently deployed in support of Operation Martillo.
