Pets killed in Chesapeake house fire

A Chesapeake fire claimed the lives of multiple house pets on Wednesday morning. 

According to Captain Saunders of the Chesapeake Fire Department, fire crews responded to the 220 block of Ardmore Avenue Wednesday morning at 8:49 a.m.

Officials say when crews arrived, heavy smoke was seen coming out of the house. The two alarm fire was deemed under control at 9:15 a.m. The home was occupied by two adults and one child – no injuries were reported. The occupants were not home at the time of the fire. However, officials tell NewsChannel 3 there were house pet casualties.

Three dogs, four cats, multiple ferrets, two birds, and one iguana all died in the fire. Crews were able to rescue and resuscitate one cat.
