Update: Gas leak reported near Bridge Road and Bennetts Pasture in Suffolk now clear

Update: The gas leak is now all clear. 

Crews are now on the scene of a gas leak at the intersection of Bridge Road and Bennetts Pasture Road in Suffolk. 

A contractor had been performing work at that location and the police were notified that a gas line had been damaged at approximately 2:15 p.m.  Columbia Gas is also on the scene.

Bennett’s Pasture Road northbound is currently shut down, and Rt. 17 southbound is currently shut down. 

There is a u-turn in place at Rt. 17/Bennett’s Pasture Road to go back towards Lee Farm Lane.

The Bennett’s Creek Shoppes have been evacuated. 

The Suffolk Public Schools’ bus garage has also been notified.
