Portsmouth police have arrested and charged 21-year-old Deshawn Thomas Phillips, of the 4100 block of Sheila Crescent in Chesapeake. Phillips is currently in the custody of the Portsmouth Sheriff’s Office on charges of robbery, abduction, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

A second suspect, 30-year-old Keith Ryan Riddick, of the 1800 block of Spar Street in Chesapeake, has received the same charges. Riddick is currently wanted by police, and considered armed and dangerous.

Detectives recovered handguns and a controlled substance during the incident.

Additional charges are pending, and additional suspects are being sought by police.

According to Portsmouth police, on October 11 at around 11:47 a.m., police  received calls indicating that a robbery had occurred in the 1000 block of Patriot Way.

Police say communications indicated that several armed suspects had entered the victim’s home, took items and fled in a gray Mitsubishi.

A Portsmouth Police Officer saw a vehicle fitting the description, in the area of the townhomes in the Holley Cove section of Chesapeake.

The officer then requested additional assistance in and around the 4000 block of Sloop Trail, Chesapeake.  Portsmouth and Chesapeake Officers responded.

The Chesapeake Police Departments, Special Weapons and Tactical (SWAT) Unit responded and searched the building and adjoining townhomes, where the suspects may have entered.

At around 4:15 the area was secured and several males fitting the description of the suspects were detained.

At this time Portsmouth Police, Robbery Detectives are questioning the detained individuals and several others related to the investigation.
