Hampton schools put on lockdown due to nearby shooting

Three Hampton schools were put on lockdown this morning, as a precautionary measure, due to a shooting nearby. That's according to Hampton police officials. 

Those schools included Hunter B Andrews, A.W.E. Bassette and Armstrong. 

Hampton police received several mobile 911 calls around 8:54 a.m. Thursday morning in reference to a shooting in the 400 block of Hampton Roads Avenue.

When officers arrived on scene, they found one male suffering from gunshot wounds to the lower torso.

The vicitim was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police say.

Police say a physical altercation ensued between two people who know each other. During the altercation, the suspect brandished a firearm and the victim was shot.

No arrests have been made at this time, and the case is still under investigation.

Hampton police put two schools on lockdown for precautionary measures; Bassette Elementary and Armstrong Elementary. Both lockdowns have now been lifted.
