Ducky takes lead

Ducky is in charge of the case after he digs up a body at Arlington National Cemetery

The team is back in action. Everyone has finally recovered from the bombing during the season finale of “NCIS.” But before they could get there, Ducky had to dig up a body and a cold case in his spare time.

Dad: How did they do that?

Me: Do what?

Dad: How did they dig up a body at Arlington National Cemetery?

Me: I doubt they really went there. It was probably just a sound stage made to look like it. They never are really on this side of the country. Haven’t you ever noticed they get to and from D.C. so fast? It’s not natural or realistic.

Dad: True. They just pop up everywhere.

If you’re not familiar with the rules of Gibbs let me give you a crash course. The rules are a list to live by and are quoted several times throughout “NCIS.” At the suggestion of his wife, Gibbs wrote them down and kept them in a tin. They include: #9 never go anywhere without a knife, #22 never bother Gibbs during an interrogation, and #39 there’s no such thing as a coincidence. For tonight’s episode we’re going to focus on #38, your case your lead. Ducky’s cold case ends up being connected to the murder the NCIS team is investigating. That means Ducky will be in charge of the investigation. Ducky told Gibbs he exhumed the body after seeing something in the newspaper.

Gibbs: When did you start reading the Obits?

Ducky: Your day will come.

Me: That’s what you always do.

Dad: What do you mean?

Me: You say that the first thing you do in the morning is look at the obituaries. If you don’t see yourself then it’s going to be a good day.

Dad: (Laughing) It’s true.

Here’s the funny thing about this week’s episode, I didn’t actually care about the crime of the week. I was just glad to see Ducky so happy. Neither Dad nor I could remember exactly why everyone was killed. It was just nice to see everyone back where they belong, working as a team.

Dad: I loved it when Palmer showed up at Gibbs’ house to complain about Ducky, and Ducky is just sitting behind him. (Lots of laughter) Most people would have tried to talk their way out of it, but not Palmer. He just ran off.

Me: Could you really see him ever standing up to anyone?

Dad: No. Did you notice Gibbs had two giant planks in the basement? He’s building something again.

Me: Yeah, the producer said we will see what it is by the season finale.

Dad: I think it’s another boat.

Me: I just like the ongoing gag they have with the boat. They have good little recurring moments for fans, like starting the scenes after the opening title with an elevator ding or DiNozzo getting smacked on the head.

Dad: I love when Gibbs does that.
