I just returned from a conference last week where I was surrounded by the best crime fighters in the world!

Crime Stoppers International (CSI) held it's annual conference in Las Vegas.  It involved law enforcement, media, and community volunteers from around the globe.

The conference goal is to help all of the crime stopper programs improve.  It offers participants a chance to talk about how to fight crime and crime trends.  Some of the most interesting and disturbing talks involved human trafficking.  I was amazed at how many young girls from right here in the states were being lured or kidnapped into prostitution rings.

I came away with many story ideas and new contacts.  I met some people who have dedicated their lives to combating this terrible crime.

I also met my west coast counterpart.  Myrle Carner and the team from KPCQ in Seattle  Washington are doing some very interesting things with their show "Washington's Most Wanted."  We discussed how our broadcasts have changed the way local law enforcement gets tips on fugitives.

Their program has been highly successful and I look forward to keeping in touch with them.

The convention ended with the President's Gala where the best crime fighters in the world were honored.  NewsChannel 3 was proud to be nominated for the CSI Media Award. We were recognized for our continuing efforts with Taking Action Against Crime.  Our stories have helped local police capture more than 150 fugitives.

I want to thank our viewers for your support.  This honor belongs to you.  Your dedication to Taking Action Against Crime makes our community a safer place.  Keep those calls to Crime Line coming!  And a big thank you to our Hampton Roads law enforcement and community volunteers for their tireless work to keep the Crime Line program going.
