In racing, the green flag means “go.” Edward “Dude” Gibbs won a different kind of green in the Virginia Lottery’s Cash 5 game. The Seaford man matched all five numbers to win $100,000.

“I couldn’t believe it at the time,” he told Lottery officials as he claimed his prize. “I still don’t believe it!”

Mr. Gibbs races in NASCAR’s Whelen Modified Series. He bought the winning ticket for the September 15 night drawing at Rip’s Food Store, 1210 George Washington Highway in Tabb. The winning numbers were 3-5-7-9-11.

His ticket was one of four to win the $100,000 top prize in that drawing. The other three tickets were bought in Mineral, Petersburg and Richmond.

Cash 5 drawings are held daily at 1:59 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. The chances of winning the $100,000 top prize are 1 in 278,256.
