Bringing light rail to Virginia Beach is not just about transportation.

It's now getting political.

And supporters are mobilizing to get their message out there including Norfolk and Virginia Beach's mayors.

The crippling traffic that haunts commuters on I-264 is rivaled only by the potholes that eat up your tires.

A few miles west of the gridlock, people armed with clipboards came together in hopes of fixing the Southside's transportation problem.

Light rail now is a grassroots effort campaigning to bring the Tide to the Beach.

Less than two months from now, voters in Virginia Beach will weigh in on allowing the city to further explore extending the Tide east of the dead end at Newtown Road.

If the referendum passes, the Tide going to the Beach is far from a reality.

City council has to sign off on the plan, then there's the sticky issue of who's going to pay for a project that could have a sticker price of around 800 million dollars.
