Rip Current Report:

Surf’s up!  If you love to ride the waves, then swell conditions will be right up your alley over the next few days.

While distant Hurricane Leslie will not directly impact Hampton Roads and NE North Carolina, we will still see some of its indirect effects.  In fact, as Lesliecontinues to slowly move north toward Bermuda in the Atlantic Ocean, the storm will create long period swells, producing large waves along much of the East Coast of the U.S. through the weekend.

According to Weather Underground, wave heights will likely build between 5 and 7 feet and possibly even 8 feet along the Outer Banks of North Carolina on Saturday and Sunday.

This will be good news for surfers.  However, Leslie will also produce dangerous rip currents at all area beaches in Virginia and North Carolina this weekend.  Please use extreme caution if you are going to be along the coast over the next few days.

Reminders -

Lifeguards are no longer on duty in Sandbridge, the North End, or the North Beach area. The resort area will still have lifeguard patrols until September 30 - after that, lifeguards are off for the season.
