Some Newport News residents are still out of their homes after this weekend's storms.

"I've got to go somewhere, and I don't know where I'm going to go."

Wilma Reuss is desperately trying to get back home.

Her home at the Great Oak Apartment Complex is now drenched and condemned.

Newport News officials say Reuss and her neighbors will have to stay out until repairs make their homes safe to live in once again.

"It's humid, it's wet in there, it's going to mold and mildew, so what furniture I could salvage is going to be ruined," she says.

Saturday, as it began flooding, Reuss wasted no time trying to protect the memories she's collected her whole life.

"Started putting everything up high, and sealed off the front door with towels, went to the bedroom, came back and the water was just like rolling in."

As crews work hard to get things back in order, the dozens of families affected can do nothing but wait in hotels and emergency shelters until they can one day get back to their own beds.

"They said later today we can maybe go back in and get a few more personal things out, but where are you going to put it?"
