According to police, there was an officer-involved accident on Holland Road and Warwick Drive in Virginia Beach on Friday night.

The call was received by emergency personnel on Friday night at 8 p.m. The accident was reported in the 3200 block of Holland Road.

When police and rescue personnel arrived on scene, they found a four vehicle accident with minor injuries. Officers had the southbound lanes blocked at the intersection of Warwick Drive while investigating the accident.

While officers were investigating the four vehicle crash, a police officer was in the northbound lane in an attempt to divert traffic. The officer attempted to stop a second lane of traffic in the same direction. The officer was struck by a vehicle and was transported to a local hospital.

Police say the driver of the vehicle did stop and was not injured. The vehicle that struck the officer is a 2000 BMW.

The officer, who has been with the department for two years, remains in critical condition.

There are no charges against the driver of the vehicle at this time.

Speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash.

This case remains under investigation.
