Newport News man shot and killed while waiting to get on bus for work
As a father and as a husband, family members say James Dix did what he could to provide for his loved ones.
That’s why he was working as a gourmet chef at Hampton University.
To get there he always caught a bus at the corner of 25th Street and Parish Avenue.
Today he never made it to work, Police say a gunman robbed him and killed him.
Investigators say, Dix tried to run home which is a couple of doors down. He collapsed a few feet away from his gate.
Police don’t believe that Dix knew the suspect. But, they are looking into the possibility that this murder is related to five other robberies that happened in that same neighborhood. In two cases, two people were shot, one in the thigh and the other in the head.
Newport News Police Spokesperson says, “the thinking is that it could be. But, it’s really too early to say yes they are. But we are looking into that possibility.”
Investigators believe a group of men are behind the robberies. They’ve already arrested on suspect Keondre Williams, but are still looking for others.
Though they can’t say for sure, today’s murder is connected to those crimes, Investigators are hopeful a gun that was found in the neighborhood will lead them to Dix’s killer.
